Acupressure is a method of applying pressure to these key points on the body in order to relieve pain and promote health. According to the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, stimulating these points effects the flow of qi in the energetic channels of the body. If the qi is weak or obstructed, pain and sickness develop.

In acupuncture, these points are stimulated with very small sterile needles or mild electric stimulation. In acupressure, needles are not used. The points and the entire energy channels are pressed or massaged in order to release constriction and stimulate healthy energy flow. Additional methods like moxabustion, magnets, and cupping are also beneficial in stimulating and tonifying energy flow.

Acupressure can relieve muscular pain and tension when ordinary massage is not providing lasting relief. Because acupressure has an effect on the internal organs, it can provide relief from systemic health complaints, like menstrual cramps, headaches, digestive problems, and asthma.
